CIPO Dinner.

Every cloud has a silver lining, or so the expression claims.  For my ‘cloud’ (which is my illness), a ‘silver lining’ was definitely the CIPO Dinner.

CIPO is an acronym for ‘Canadian Immunodeficiencies Patient Organization’.  Phew, that was a mouthful.  To quote who they are and what they do, here’s an excerpt from their website:

We have been growing in leaps and bounds…and working hard to assist patients in understanding their immune disorders, and treatment options through education and other resources…

…CIPO is a place where you can meet and talk to other patients with primary or secondary immune disorders, both on line and in person…

…We devote substantial resources to educating families, the public, and the medical community about these disorders, and also to advocating for patients both indivdually and as a group.

On Tuesday December 3, 2013 at 6:00 pm, the first CIPO dinner in Hamilton took place at the Liuna Station.  The guests were patients living with immune disorders, their families, doctors and nurses.

I went with my parents, and it was a joy to be able to get out of the house to meet people with conditions similar to mine.  The speakers were interesting and shared a lot of information about different forms of treatments.  The option to administer a treatment at home peaked my interest because right now I have to go to the hospital a few times a month for an IVIG infusion.

And of course the food and atmosphere were absolutely amazing!

I really hope that the Hamilton CIPO chapter continues to do this because it gave me – and the other guests – an enjoyable evening where we forgot about our issues and felt normal for a change! :)

The Liuna Station was absolutely lovely!
